Out of the case came a voluminous tome of archaic binding and musty, brittle pages. I went through that Bible with a fine-toothed comb, and although I did find many Rhodes notations, I couldn't find a single reference to a Henderson. I must have turned every page of that Bible, to no avail. Puzzled and disappointed, I photographed the Bible and returned it to the archivist.
I recently learned that there was a second copy of the Bible in the Cullen Hatch Collection in Kinston, NC (the Hatch family intermarried with that of Rhodes). It is this version of the Bible that contained the references to children and/or grandchildren of James "Isaac" Henderson.
Now that so much more documentation has become available online, I need to revisit this link, review the transcription of this alternate version of the Bible, and compare it to the one I reviewed over two decades ago. In the mean time, I would like to share this transcription by North Carolina historical and genealogical researcher Sloan Mason. All editorial comments are Mr. Mason's, but the red emphasis is mine.
I will follow up with a separate post of commentary.

Laura- We are Henderson Descd who came to CALIF in 1851 to Mountain View & I have been doing the tree for >30 yrs. You have a few typos/ Mistakes. It is Nancy Layfield not Wayfield on this page, wife of Levin Henderson- my 3rd great Grandfather/mother. His sons were also: Henry Merrill Henderson and his brother Isaac Layfield Henderson, these three siblings (incl sister Mrs Benson) went to Grundy Co MO about 1834 with many others from Eastern Shore MD. There, they mixed with the Snelling & Tandy families of KY which I also descent from and Harlow, Ricketts, Perry/, Trotter. Reese Bowen's children of VA married into the Tandy line and others

And the admin 'charting' for the Clan Henderson project stinks. They have not let the kit members have a column to place a Ancestor, date range, and spec town. He said no one wanted to, HAH, out of a few hundred, no one???
Every other project has data one can use..... but not clan henderson...virtual madness.

Hi Terry, I'm delighted to meet you and would like to communicate with you further about your family line.
I'm not seeing the reference to Layfield/Wayfield on this page that deals with the Rhodes family of Onslow County NC, but I am familiar with the Layfield family of Somerset County MD who married into the Henderson family of that same area. Perhaps you meant to leave this comment beneath another post here on this blog? I actually do have questions about the allied line of Layfield and would love to correspond with you if you would email me at info.itsallrelative@gmail.com.
Regarding the DNA testing, there are about to be some big changes on the project to address the very issue you mention. As you can imagine, the sheer volume and diversity of Henderson testers makes maintaining that project difficult for one person, or even a few people (as there are currently), and surprisingly, many testers actually do not provide information about their ancestry, nor do they respond to communication from the DNA admins. So it really wasn't a matter of not letting the testers provide the info, but the fact that so many did not provide it was one factor among several that led the admins to make the decision not to include that field in the chart *for the time being.* You are not the only person to notice this, so discussions have been underway as to how best to address the collection of the missing data.
There is currently an effort underway to assign co-admins for each identifiable family group within the Clan project, and those folks will be doing all they can to establish contact with each and every tester within their specific family group and collect their known ancestry information so it can be added to the project to help make it more useful to the clan at large. I know this because I'm the co-admin assigned to our group. :-)
